War and Dragons: What’s Next in House of the Dragon Season 2

The second season of “House of the Dragon” will focus on the growing war between Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and her supporters, and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and her supporters. These groups are known as the Black faction and the Green faction. Max has released an official trailer for the series, along with separate trailers showing each side of the conflict. In these trailers, we see Rhaenyra and Daemon (Matt Smith) gathering their armies and planning their strategy, while Alicent and her sons Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) and Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) do the same.

Season two hints at a big showdown between Daemon and Aemond, who ride two of the largest dragons, Caraxes and Vhagar. Aemond became a key character in season one after claiming Vhagar and accidentally starting the war with Rhaenyra’s family. The romance between Rhaenyra and Daemon blossomed in season one, but the season two trailer suggests there might be conflicts between them.

Countdown to Dragon Warfare

House of the Dragon Season 2 premieres on Sunday, June 16 on HBO and Max. This season has a big task: it needs to portray the most detailed dragon-on-dragon war from George R.R. Martin’s books in just eight episodes instead of ten. With less time, there’s a challenge to develop all the relationships and side stories fans care about and showcase 16 dragons. The trailer promises plenty of dragon action to come.

If you missed season one, you can watch all the episodes on Max, along with all episodes of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” “House of the Dragon” is based on George R. R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” which tells the story of House Targaryen’s decline.
